My 2001 320td 150hp diesel just won't start. From the sound of the engine I'm certain that it doesn't get any fuel. Since the fuel filter was changed recently (about 3 months ago) my first instinct was to change the fuel pump in the back seat (luckily my friend "donated" one for cheap), but the results were the same. Now, when I removed the back seat there were 2 "units" that looked exactly the same on the outside. On the passenger's side you have the actual pump with the fuel level sensor and on the driver's side you have just a fuel level sensor (I'm guessing the fuel tank is split). The interesting part is that the fuel tank part on the driver's side is almost completely empty. Can someone explain the cause of this and if the sensor has anything to do with it? What could be a possible fix? I should also mention that before this problem I had difficulties starting the car (it occurred erratically, sometimes it started immediately, sometimes it took a few tries).
