What kind of jump starters/boosters are you guys using? Noco gb40 and JNC 770 failed

Tried a Noco gb40, nothing. Tried a new JNC 770 better but no luck. Ended up having to use the JNC at the front posts and another group 49 with cables to the battery in the trunk and she started right up. The battery in the car is a new Interstate 95r AGM battery. Sat for a couple weeks and I forgot to unplug my dash cam. Was at 3v when I tried to start it. Even left the 770 hooked up for like 5 mins before cranking and no difference. Looking at the Noco gb150 or JNC950. Thanks.

I've been using my Noco GB40 without issue. As I recall if your battery is below something like 8vdc, the Noco has built in safeties to not automatically recognize the battery (so you don't spark the leads). You have to put the GB40 in override which disables the safeties and allows a jump. I've been able to jump my e38 twice (still within the allowable limit of the Noco to recognize the battery but not strong enough to start the e38 under normal conditions) AND I've been able to start my 300ZX that had to have the Noco in override. After all that, I still had a 75-100% charge on the Noco after it had been sitting charged for months.

My recommendation regarding jump starting/boosters is just don't do it! 99% of the time you are fine, and then one day a module will just go legs-up and that will really spoil your day!

Do you remember about what voltage your battery was and the noco was able to start the e38? Mine was at 6v, then I returned the gb40 and tried the jnc at 3v a few days later. Having the JNC hooked up for a few mins brought it back to about 6v or 7v but still needed a second battery. Reason I ask is maybe the problem isn't a strong enough booster but poor connection somewhere? Strange that it needs so much power to start an old 4.4l gas v8.

Sometimes there's no choice but to use a booster or get a jump but I do agree, removing the battery terminals and letting it charge is best.

I have had one of these for years now and my battery that was giving me issues every once in a while has not given me a problem since.

Thanks yeah those are smart to have. I forgot to disconnect my dash cam and it drained my battery after a couple weeks. I think my LCM is freaking out too, hazards and high beam will flash after locking the car but stops soon after. Some mentioned the hood sensor but I never got any false hood open messages.

Charge it fully, then start it. Jumping a dead battery, and having the alternator do the rest of the work is bad for the alternator. I know we don’t always get that choice, but get a full charge if you can.
