WTB, want to rent: SIR3 Airbag reset tool for certain E30s and E24s

Unfortunately, I triggered the SRS light when I was cleaning up some wires under the dash. I desperately need the SIR3 tool so I can reset the light before my state safety inspection this month. Does anyone have one I can buy or rent? I have already tried the Carsoft 6.5 software and jumper wire trick with no success. Apparently the wiring is incomplete between the SRS module and the 20 pin connector on certain E30/E24 models, and the SIR3 tool is the only way to reset the light on those cars. Thanks in advance!

The SIR3 tool plugs into the 20 pin connector, so that isn't the problem...
But you CAN reset the SRS light with INPA, CarSoft isn't good at this on the early cars.

Thanks for the quick response. I think there's a way to connect the SIR3 tool directly to the plug at the SRS module under the kick panel. This is the thread that describes that procedure. https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...mexx-SIR3-tool

And INPA sounds like a great tool...appreciate the suggestion.

Well, when you find one, let me know. I'll rent it too! Hell, at this rate... if anyone has one, I'll buy it. And then sell it off to the next guy and consider the costs of shipping as my rental fees.

Also in need, does anyone know how it works, is it just grounding certain pins in a timed sequence? I haven't tried it yet but found this on another forum

You need to short 2 pins in the 20 pin diag. port in the engine bay. The pins are 19 (Ground) and 6 (SRS RxD). You run long wires from those 2 pins to the cabin. You SHORT the wires and turn the key to ON and hold for 5 seconds, OPEN for 5 secs., SHORT for 5 secs., OPEN for 5 secs. then immediately turn the key OFF. Entire procedure should take 20 secs. and must be ACCURATE. Use your phone to time it!
Remove the wires, close diag. port and start the car. If you've done it correctly and your system is in working order then the SRS light will reset and function normally the next time you start the car instead of Blinking for 3-5 mins. then stay on forever.
