    86 528e expansion tank hose

Hi guys I recently just bought a 86 528e that has been sitting for 2 years it starts and idles roughly but theres a huge issue where when it starts it spews out a bunch of coolant from a hose connected to the expansion tank. The hose runs from the expansion tank to behind the back of the front passenger side wheel and from the looks of it there seems nothing connected to that hose. My question is is the hose supposed to stick out from the rear of the wheel or did the previous owner moved it to that location

That's normal to vent to the outside but it shouldn't be putting out that much fluid

That is just fine, that is over flow. Do yo uknow the last time the timing belt was changed? If not ,do not run the car until you change the belt. These belts need to be changed every 4 years or 60,000 miles. If it breaks you will cry and wish that your mother had hit you more to get you to listen to reason.

So got everything changed from coolant hoses, waterpump, thermostat, belt, sensors but the thing is car starts overheating and spilling a bunch of coolant from the over flow hose and steam too. I fill the expansion tank to the level it needs but after a 10 minute idle its starts spewing and smoking alot from there any help would be appreciated

Have you checked to see if you have a bad head gasket?

That's what I'm going for next I replaced almost everything from the cooling system except the radiator and reservoir. I'm afraid that could be the issue. Somebody here locally is selling a m20 ETA with only 132k miles came out of a running e30 if it's the head gasket you think it would good to fix the head or just replace the whole engine itself?

replacing the gasket is not that bad, but if it is a m20 with a 885 head then it is a good swap.

Did it turn out to be the head gasket? Sounds like combustion chamber pressure in the cooling system.

Replace the clutch fan and all is good so far (m50 clutch fan) it was the only thing I had at the moment was making a big move to cali. But it hasn't spilled coolant no more . Have a coolant leak but havent had time to fix it.
