    E36 crank no start

How’s it going? I just registered, Ive read many forums and had lots of help from them the past 2 years.. but I’ve run into a problem that I haven’t read about yet.... so I had a 98 328i and pulled the engine and trans of after being wrecked (5speed manual m52) I picked up a another 98 328i with blown motor and was auto.. did the engine and manual swap, drove the car for about 6 months (I never put the 2nd car into my name, yes I’m stupid for that) but the ignition tumbler broke on me and Instead of putting the car into my name and buying tumbler that matches the DME I bought a tumbler for my old car (since that car is still in my name) and plugged in that DME to match the tumbler.. well after plugging everything in, the car had no crank no start.. well I did the ews delete now she cranks but no start.. any help?? Sorry for the long thread and back story but I feel that is the only way you’ll be able to understand and help me best.. thank you

He already moved it to the correct subforum.

    Welcome to the forum Cole!

Even though you did EWS delete you may still have to align the modules, I'm not 100% sure but someone else may know. There is a little program called EWSsync, you would need a laptop and a vagcom cable.
Attn. NEWBIES: Use the search feature, 98% has already been discussed.
Click the search button, select "search single content type", select the "e36 sub forum" specifically, try the "search titles" then try the "search entire posts".

The tumbler has nothing to do with the dme.

Key chip is paired to ews module, and ews module is paired to the dme.

Okay, so if I have the key (has chip in it) to match the DME do I need to get a new ews to match the DME as well? Wouldn’t that almost be the same thing as tryin to align the modules? Stealership was saying the tumbler has the chip to match the key and tumbler?🤷*♂️

You edited your post 328iPower. I think this is an EWS issue, he has version II, he should try EWSsync I think.

1998e3621cole, fuck the dealer we will figure this out lol

Or this has something to do with the dme learning the key's code.

Ight yep, i already order the 20pin adapter on amazon, and will pick up a vagcom cable from Walmart when the other arrives to test this out. The EWSsync, when I search this I don’t really get a website that is what I’m looking for? Any of you guys have a link by chance or a direction to start searching?
    Thank you Eric

Alright I got my adapters to try to sync the ews to the DME.. I keep reading things about an App or a link to sync these? Or do I just plug it into a laptop? If so, exactly what am I doing?
