Still waiting on the kit. Here's my new grippy rubber:
    0629191608.jpg

The tread seems about 10mm wider than my Bridgestone RE-11s in the same size.
I didn't realize that R compounds like the RA1 come with 8/32 of tread rather than 12. These measure out around 7.5/32. I hope to get at least 5000 miles and 10 track days out of these.

I like RA1, but my experience is limited to 3 season Street use and dragstrip. I tried R compound street drag radials but did not like the handling though the squishiness is better for launching than the harder sidewalls of track tires. The RA1 are stickier than any 140-300 treadwear summer tire I tried, which makes sense because they are rated 100.

The kit is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday via Fedex. I have spent all weekend finishing up the car in preparation. I got an appointment for a track day inspection, but cancelled it after my preinspection revealed a torn outer CV boot on the drivers side and also a minute amount of play in the wheel bearing for that same LR wheel.

One rebuilt CV axle. The outer CV joint is friction welded to the shaft, so to replace the outer boot, you must remove the inner CV joint and boot, then the outer boot, repack both joints with grease, and reassemble.

The inner joint required penetrating oil, heat, and a 10 lb sledgehammer to separate from the shaft. I didnt get a pic of the shiny clean balls and races of the inner joint because my hands and clothes were fully grease covered. With rebuilt CV axles available from GKN for $280ish, I would NOT do this again given enough lead time.

Casualties of war - one broken slide hammer hub puller (left), one impact grade 1/2 inch extension (right) one axle nut cut off with a die grinder/cutoff wheel, and one axle to diff bolt with the head sliced off.

I applied about 900 ft lbs of torque to the axle nut with 3/4 drive tools after breaking the 1/2 drive stuff, with no results. I dragged my wifes oxyacetylene torch over and heated the nut smoking hot, no dice, and finally just cut and chiseled the damn thing off.

The diff bolt torx head was fubared by whoever removed it last. Was it me? Maybe, I've owned this car for 10 years now.

With all of that work out of the way, I'm going to sit down and smoke a Rocky Patel Maduro, drink an Ironhorse Irish Death, and relax. I was thinking of starting a blog with beer and cigar pairing reviews. Yes, whisky is even better, but extremely expensive in this part of the world.

Will post again when my boxes of goodies arrive.

First step is to make a gasket for this big ass blower, it barely fit on my Felpro gasket paper:
    0715192051.jpg

Traced around and sketched in the interior passages:
    0715192104.jpg

Cut out the shapes, drilled out the bolt holes and here's my custom gasket:
    0715192136.jpg
Whoops, still need to cut that part out that separates the discharge and the bypass. The Hyde discharge flange doesn't seal against that part.

I'm going to hit this a lot harder tomorrow.

I disassembled the intake side until I could see what Im working with. The power steering reservoir will have to be relocated, and the throttle body needs a different gasket or silicone to mount to the blower intake tube. Alternator cooling is not going to happen for now, might be doable with a 3D printed part at some point. The tensioner pulley gets deleted and replaced with a fixed one.

Not sure how the power steering bracket from the kit works just yet.

This is roughly where the discharge plate needs to live. Its now obvious that the power steering pump bracket gets deleted from the engine and the pump is mounted to the bracket that hangs from the bottom of the pulley plate. Good thing these are all made of 3/16 steel.

This bracket, formerly having something to do with a traction control system that got deleted in 2009, must be sliced off the shock tower.

Bracket formerly supporting the plastic manifold also gets deleted.

I think I will zip tie the ps res in this location, which may retain marginal accessibility and no hose mods required. TB heat hoses will be capped off.

Darn pulley needs to come off first. Air ratchet to the rescue. Underdrive pulley... That means the belt they sent is probably not going to work.

The PS pump head comes off the body when dismounted from the bracket! Use an oil pan, or degrease the floor later like I need to now.

Bit of a snag here, the holes in the PS bracket don't line up with the tapped holes in the PS pump head, no matter how I rotate things. Maybe there are multiple versions of the PS pump and brackets on the E36.

It's nothing that can't be fixed with a variable speed drill press, cobalt bit, cutting oil, and a machinist's vise. However, I think the orientation of the pump may be critical, because it surely has to remount to the lower bracket that connects to the engine block.

I will stop here since I need to test fit with all brackets in place and mark the optimum hole locations before drilling, and also give Hyde a chance to tell me I'm doing this all wrong.

Its going nice here so far, the only issue I see is that the under drive pulley you mention, you could use the stock one or you will have to use a smaller belt if you want to use the under drive pulley. It wont affect boost output as long as the crank pulley is the same size.

The power steering, there are at least 4 variations I know of, The one you got there, may had been a good idea to upgrade it to the M52 LF30? We have different ps brackets, and the one sent to you should had fit? we test every setup before sending, this was tested on an M50 iirc. Wonder if its upside down? If not you can go ahead and enlarge them and use washers. I will ask Keith to drop by and leave some thoughts.

Love that you are into cigars by the way, have been smoking a domincan here today with a craft beer, whiskey is my thing too - Keep up the great work!

Thanks! I'll go ahead and adapt the bracket to my pump. I'm aiming to complete installation on Thursday and start tuning, trying to attend a car show Saturday.

The intercooler pipes are going to be a very tight fit, I have plenty of extra lengths in the shop, but would be nice to minimize the length of the intake tract so the MAF reading doesn't lag behind the flow at the ports too much.

Hello I am Keith from Hyde Motorworks. Hyde is absolutely right, there are quite a few different power steering pump and brackets used on the E36 and E46. In the US I have come across at least three.
The early M50 / s50 typically used a thick cast aluminum bracket, and the oil filter housing where it mounts is recessed. The steel bracket I sent is a replacement for that one.
Then BMW changed power steering pumps, and used a different oil filter housing on the m52 / s52. The power steering bracket itself is stamped Steel. That bracket does not need to be replaced. The supercharger front main mounting bracket bolts over top of the factory stamped steel power steering bracket.
Then BMW change the power steering pump again, and oil filter housing, and went back to a cast aluminum power steering bracket on the early M54 / s54 engines. We have a completely different steel bracket that replaces that particular one.
Sorry for any confusion this may have caused. We are still working out some of the details. And I'm sure you know that a lot of things get changed mid model year and acrost the entire E36 chassis production. I personally have a 93 325is, with the m122 H supercharger on a freshly built 3 liter M50. I also have a 95 325i convertible. Even though the two cars are only two years apart, and on the surface appear to be very similar, they are not.
But with help from our clients such as you, we can make the necessary refinements, to make the installation a much smoother process.
    Thank you very much, Keith

Absolutely, I am with Keith on that. If you dont mind can you share your part number on that pump? and also get us a template so we can add that as an option for folks using your pump.

No problem, happy to help. The pump is a ZF 32412227197, and the bolt pattern is rectangular 2.74" by 2.55". The bracket is 7681040232.

Ah, just realized I can use the bracket as a template for redrilling, and I fortunately have an 11/32 cobalt bit laying around. Easy as pie.
