The drain on my power steering pump is an internally keyed aluminum plug, with straight threads, that is it will keep threading in without plugging like a pipe thread fitting. it doesn't have a sealing ring, and it doesn't bottom out. I put Teflon tape on it, but it's weeping...
Is this the correct plug? should it be a plug with a crush washer?
You mean a banjo bolt? That has a aluminium / copper washer. Often people tighten the banjo bolt too tight, and then the banjo bolt cracks, this is what we found already several times http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/1263084/
Or do you mean the large plugs with the + ? That has an O-Ring, here shown when we repaired my pump http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/526913/
If not, post a pic and the part number of that plug based on your VIN
and which pump maker and number, for example ZF......
