I have a 2000 bmw z3 and the convertible top works fine up and down but when I try to open it all the way it won’t lay correctly . Like the motor doesn’t want to pull it all the way into the slot. It’s about 4 inches up off the trunk and when I push it down it will go down into the slot but pop right back out . Please help , idk if it’s a bent frame or the hydraulic system
New canvas on the frame? It may be tight and not 'broken in' yet.
it only takes a minute to unhook the hydraulics, then you can test it. it's behind the driver's seat.
The hydraulic motor is in the trunk, left hand side. Remove the carpet and you'll see a "T" handle on the side of the unit. Give it a turn and you'll disable the hydraulics. Then see if the top sits down properly.

There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.
I undid the hydraulic multiple times and it keeps wanting to pop right back up .
Did you just turn the T handle, or did you unhook the cylinder?
Sounds like the frame is bent
Does it close to the windshield frame easily?
