Thank you for looking at my post. Im stumped here. I have a 2004 e53 3.0i. Im new to BMW vehicles but not to auto repairs.
About 2 weeks ago my expansion tank exploded. Replaced expansion tank. Car now overheats. Found the fan clutch faulty so i replaced it, no change.
Yesterday replaced the faulty auxiliary water pump for the heater so I could bleed the system of air. No luck.
Last year (about 10,000 miles ago) I replaced the water pump, t-stat and all the hoses, radiator, expansion tank.
Something that does help is when the engine starts to overheat, I can turn the heater on and in about 1 min the temp drops back to normal, turn heater off and temp climbs again.
I did check for combustion gases in coolant with a tester. I do not have any coolant in the oil, nor does it smoke at all.
T.I.A. for any input!
Some times the the tank explodes because the aux fan is not coming on, test it. We always check the aux fan when an x5 e53 comes in and something has let go in the cooling system
Are you sure all the air is out of the system?
Does your heat get cool at idle, then hot once you drive?
