    Moving 17" wheels from a 525 to replace staggered 18" on a 535

    Hi everyone,

Can I move 17" wheels from an 05 525i to an 08 535i that currently has a staggered 18" setup without affecting dynamic drive, speedometer, roll sensing, or having to re-code anything etc? ?

Just bought a 75k mile 2008 535i and it has staggered 18" wheels - 245/40 on the front and 275/35 on the rear. The 535i replaces my 280k miles 2005 525i (with stock 17" 225/50 on all four wheels)

I'm looking to maximize tire life and it seems that having the ability to rotate front-to-rear and left-to-right is better than left to right only.

Thanks - new to the forum and hoping to get some good help over the life of this car.

Smart man! You should have no problems swapping those tires and rims. Use a calculator like this one (https://tiresize.com/comparison/) to see just how much your speedo might be off.

    Hey thanks for the reply.

The tiresize calculator you listed shows a negligible difference between the 17" and 18". I'm assuming since it's a RWD car, the only comparison that matters is rear wheel 275/35/R18 to new wheel 225/50/R17.

We run 18s in summer and 17s in winter, but use widths and aspect ratios to keep the diameters close. If you have staggered and different front and rear diameters you also want to keep the difference between front and rear very close.
