my 540 stalls while driving. wont start right away, i have to wait like 10-15 minutes until starts again. then it drives for a few minutes and dies again. could it be a fuel filter or fuel pump? or something else? Took the backseat out after car stalled and fuel pump doesn't prime
Also the fuel pump makes like a ticking noise sometimes
Check the fuel pressure to be sure. I don't know how many miles you have but I would just replace it as maintenance.
160k. Replace the fuel pump, still does the same thing
whats the fuel pressure?
Do you have any codes? I had a car and it did what you describe. Crank sensor was the problem.

Same thing that will make you smile will make you cry. Was that a piston?
no codes. somebody else said the same thing. i will replace the sensor see what happens
Isn’t the crank sensor giving rpm data? So if the rpm gauge is not moving, the sensot is dead...

No. If the cranskshaft sensor is bad, you would get an error code...
I'd think you may have a throttle problem.

update on the car: i read somewhere that if your crankshaft sensor is bad, after it dies, it wont start with starting fluid. mine tried to do that, so i dont belive the sensor is bad. if i start if and dont drive it it only dies after coming up to temp. and i also found a lot of coolant under the car. could that be the problem?
Yes, that may be a big problem. Sounds like a waterpump or blown electric thermostat problem...
Check your cooling system, and first, try to locate the source of the coolant leak.
