Could use some help I got a 1988 BMW 735i bought it about 2 year back and havent been able to drive it for more then half that time. I was driving it one night down the highway and hit something like a tire retread from a semi or something and the transmission started acting up like it was slipping lasted all of 2 days then lost drive will still go in reverse but i dont know if it needs an all new trans or something to do with the rear end but in the dash after it runs for a minute it says "trans program." And the D,E,S settings dissapear is it something to do with that or something else I just want to get her rolling again. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

In case you hit something on the street, first of all check if the trans cooler and the trans cooler lines are not damaged. Is there ATF under the car? Check the fluid level of the transmission, ino on that here under DIY https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/f...-and-DIY-Fixes
Shogun tricks and tips for the E32 series are HERE!
When you get 'transprog' in check control, it is normal for the mode and gear selection to disappear from the cluster. What you are normally left with is a high forward gear plus reverse. You will not even get that if all the ATF has drained away. Perhaps start by following Shogun's instruction and confirm if you found ATF under the car? And if you didn't, confirm it has some in the trans? It would also be useful if you had a look at the shift cable adjustment. What you think you are telling the trans to do with the shift lever may not be translated correctly at the other end due to damage
What is ATF sorry not good with short hand and I checked the trans fluid and it's still full and I dont see any leaks at all and where do I find the shift cable adjustment?
ATF= automatic transmission fluid. Great that you don't see any leaks and you checked level as per procedure. Shift cable adjustment is on (your) driver's side of the trans. About as simple as a bicycle brake cable to adjust but worth checking in case of impact damage
Oh ok I'll take a look at that when I get home and see if it needs adjustments. Thank you .
Another thing worth checking is if the gear selector switch assembly or the shifter cable was damaged by whatever you hit as they are exposed under the car - more information regarding the switch here:
