Hi, the release bearing on my 118d has started to grumble when depresses (not clinically) so needs changing. The clutch itself is fine and smooth with no slipping, it's just the grumbly bearing that's the problem. The car has done 170k on the original clutch as all of my miles are pretty much motorway ones.
My question is do I pay the additional£240 for a new DMF or just go for a bearing, pressure and friction plates. The take off from rest is fine with no excessive judder and its smooth on the overrun as well.
Also, I know you are supposed to use a special tool for installing the self adjusting clutch but also watched YTs installing it using the quarter turn at a time technique and being successful.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks
David
I think it depends upon what the DMF looks like when the clutch is off. If the tech knows his/her stuff the DMF will be thoroughly inspected before making the decision to replace or reuse. The critical part is not the surface of the flywheel but the condition of the springs. Check out this YouTube vid: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kO07u4_sU6M
Or you look to see if Valeo makes the clutch kit that does away with the twin mass all together
Thanks for that, the solid flywheel conversion with standard clutch would be a good plan👍
