    Tuning Options

I recently swapped in a 325e bottom end and 325i head into my 325i. It starts up and runs, but I am curious as to the popular tuning options that are out there for this swap. I have seen many people go with various chips, but I have not found any concrete answers as to that being the best option. Another thing I am concerned about is my car is running very rich and the exhaust still has a cat on it. I am worried that because my engine is running rich, it will end up ruining the cat. Would it be better to run without a cat?

    No e30s, again :(
Is your o2 sensor working? It should correct itself

You really should get the correct chip/software for that setup.

After that, you may look into a more aggressive cam, after that it depends how much money you are willing to spend.

Any hardware changes, would require software tuning. So either continuously get the chip redone or go stand alone/piggyback.

IMO a cam and suited chip on a 2.5 or 2.7 is really all you need, but that is just me.

Why would it be running rich?

Thats why i say the o2 sensor is bad. My buddies car didn't run rich when he did this to his car

So it’s more likely to be a maintenance issue rather than a tuning issue

Did you change the top end to include an i intake and larger throttle body?

Is the bottom end still the flat "e" pistons? if it is you just lowered your compression due to a mismatched combustion chamber - and this setup can give you a lot of headaches. I wouldn't be surprised if you are running rich.

Just search "budget stroker" on the forums and you read about all the headaches others have had trying to get those things to run right.

If you have i pistons and or a designed set of pistons for the i head - (IE pistons or Wisesco etc) then I be looking at a chip to tune..

Yes I am using the normal eta pistons. Everything else on the top end of the car is from an i.

This is the source of your issue - your compression has dropped and you have a mismatched combustion chamber.

The guys on R3Vlimited would be the people I ask about this. Im not sure if a chip will work or if a change in the Air flow meter would help or what - but the guys who have messed with these are on there posting quite frequently. Digger and Forced Firebird are two that can guide you on tuning.
