might need a valve body cleaning and overhaul https://forum.e34.de/thread.php?thre...&hilight=5hp18

I had a mistake when I described the problem, when I put on R there is a kick, but harder is when is from D to R. When it’s from P to R or N to R is slight kick.

I think this is troubleshooting maybe, but can you explain to me what I must change do :

Hard engaging jolt in position R
    a) Damper of brake D malfunctions
    b) Modulation pressure too high
    c) Wire to pressure regulator faulty
    d) Pressure regulator faulty

    a) Replace valve body, refer to 24 30 006
    b) Replace pressure regulator, refer to 24 34 861
    c) Repair/replace wire harness, refer to 24 35 501
    d) Replace pressure regulator, refer to 24 34 861

    Thank you!

    Possibilities:
remove the valve body and clean it and replace all balls in the valve body, disassemble and clean the solenoid valves in the valve body. That usually solves the problem. See the above link I gave for valve body overhaul.

In addition, for the 5HP18 there was a new EPROM with a new software for the transmission control module, which exactly solves this problem http://www.7-forum.com/modelle/e32/e..._egs/index.php
    Software D3000:
    Symptome :

    Symptoms:
    - Hard upshift and downshift in different driving conditions, poor shifting comfort
    - Electronic transmission control switches sporadically to emergency program, error 100 (gear monitoring) in the fault memory
    - 3-2 dowbshifting uncomfortable, with slow throttle (35 - 50 km / h) with strong impact, does not occur when fast accelerating
    - 4-5 upshifting in case of loss of load hard
    - 5-4 / 4-5 pendulum shifts under light load in the speed range of 80 - 85 km / h
    - Sporadic hard circuit after aborted full load acceleration from approx. 120 - 155 km / h
4-5 Shifting is stopped under light load in the speed range of 80-85 km / that means it is briefly, possibly taken with hard shift shock again the 4th gear. This process can be repeated several times under constant load (80 - 85 km / h) under light load (pendulum shifting)
    ----------------------
This EPROM is no longer available from BMW. But you can buy it from some people in Germany, for example from the person which made the DIY instruction for the valve body overhaul I posted above in the German E32 forum, his company
