Hopefully on a site that actually works and isn't going to download some horrible bug to my computer? Been trying for an hour and every download site I go to doesn't work...
Why can't people just make things SIMPLE omg.
Look for Mikes easy tools or Mikes easy BMW tools, something like that.

^This.
First hit when you put “mike's easy bmw tools package forum” into your googlizer.
or google INPA or BMW Tools Download.
But BTW if you have been finding "hard" to obtain INPA and setting it up, you should consider not doing so and get somebody else to do it for you whenever you need. I'm sure there's somebody out there that can pull the codes for you, and hey, maybe fix small things for free. The amount of endorphins your brain shoots when you help a lazy ass whiney that doesn't know how to obtain THINGS FOR FREE IN THIS ERA WHERE PRACTICALLY EVERY TODDLER CAN GET ANYTHING FROM THE INTERNET AND DOWNLOAD IF FOR FREE

Jicaino-was that directed to me-whining?
Hope not. Bought a kd can cable from ebay, and I just can't get anything in INPA to function. Errors, 'language mismatch', etc...pretty dang obtuse software. Horrible actually. No idea how to get codes from this car.

Yeah, was a cheap stab. Language mismatch indicates that the reworking program used to code the car isn't the one that's being used to read it. Depends on the iteration of BMW tools you install you'll get that all the time. Also most packages that has been doctored up to work under x86 systems are a mix and match of .dll files from here and there, so you get that pretty often.
When you get the message just accept it and proceed normally. It actually means you've made a connection and its reading the ECU.

If codes are all you want, wouldn't it be much simpler to use an OBD2 scanner? I mean that as a question.
There is a download here from a very respected fellow BMW enthusiast... https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...xperimentation
The download makes it very easy to install. Just download then follow the simple instructions, install them in order and it should work with minimal to no fuss

The short answer is NO.
Because there are BMW specific modules and features that an OBD2 scanner cannot access.

To download INPA, I recommend the link on the first post of "Mike's easy BMW Tools" : https://www.bimmerfest.com/threads/m...ackage.879366/

Here is the download link : https://mega.nz/file/kAASwa7I#AJLVnn...2BsZofE-TBYGmk
you will also need a cable to connect it all up. Yours is an earlier model so I can't help much with specifics.
You can jump 2 pins in the 20 pin round plug in order to have full module communication via the obd2 port
