Okay guys, is the person who buit this car on the forum? It looks like they did a pretty good job of color changing the interior. I have been very interested in doing this to my car, going from Black to cream interior. I talked to a mobile dye specialist who said it could be done for 1500 to 2k dollars but that it would eventually wear off.

Would seem to me that it would be a lot cheaper to buy an e38 with the interior color you want, swap interiors and sell the car,
whatever parts you have to buy to do the swap,(clips and little broken plastic pieces etc) and your time be a hell of a lot cheaper then $2000.... original leather would hold up much better then redeyed seats..

That's Brandon's (RVAE34 on the forum) car and it was done by Fibrenew. It's a high quality job that won't wear off any faster than factory dye. And to the previous poster, if you want a custom color interior, you're not just going to go out and find a stock E38 with that color (especially in Brandon's case, that color does not exist on any factory E38s).
Around here 1500-2000 does not get you a high end quality dye job like the one pictured...be lucky to even find a person to do it... I agree that a correctly and well done dye job will last a long time..and the only option for non stock colors unless you want to do a complete upholstery job.... i know the guys in the SW part of the US can get quality work done for reasonable pricing, but not up here in the Midwest...

I spent over $4k to have that done and even then, he said he would never do it again for what I paid.
Crap. I buy a toy about every three years on average and I am SICK and tired of black interior. I will not buy another car with black interior, even when a great opportunity comes along. It's so tired, and it hides any and all styling that the interior brings to the table.
holy hell whos the guy who paid 58k for that!!! jeez i thought it sold for like 25k

$25k?! Yeah, ok.
The guy who bought it was offered a lot more than $58k and passed on it by a Porsche collector that shares the private garage it currently resides in....

It would have had I not practically stolen the original car. In a fair market on the base car, the build would be at least $60k. And that is factual. Feel free to explain to me how it wouldn't have cost that much and yes, you can get a beat up used engine cheap but if you built one as extensively as I did with the best of everything and a fully rebuilt S62 by the only person I would ever trust, good luck doing it for less than that. I know one person who loves to spout off about how they can do it yet they still haven't built all those amazing cars cheap and flipped on BAT for big profits .

do it yourself.
Hey RVAE34 what does it cost to get a decent rebuild on a used m5 engine? I want to swap mine too whenever the motor/tranny dies. But if you're going to do it you got to do it right and rebuild.
Ouch. I'd be okay with paying 6 or 7 but not that much. That's approaching the cost of a new one.
A new S62 is $20k last I checked. I would rather have Peter build an S62 than buy a new one.
I still don't understand why you can't just pull the motor out of the 4.6is x5 and throw it in there. You would think it would fit like a glove.
You can. It's been done before. Not much increase in performance though to be honest.
That's fly hp though. Not to mention it's likely harder to find M62 4.6 than it is the S62. I would bet that most S62's are cheaper too since more readily available.
If you could find a cheap one, then I agree. Don't forget resale potential is better with the S62 as well.

I think personally I'd rather have the 4.6 in an E38 and keep the auto, mostly because it would be extra power without a major change to the character of the car. The S62 / 6spd would likely make me start to question why I didn't just buy an M5.
Easy, the E38 is much better looking
But keeping it auto makes a very valid point!
mustve confused it for another.
