Hello people!
I know there have been quite a few posts in the past (2012-2013) with concerns about the quality of Victor Reinz gaskets.
Despite a bad reputation in the past (justified or not), today the current prices on VR products seem to be on par with other similar OEM manufacturers. I am curious if the situation has changed over the course of last 5 years and they've improved their product line. I've read claims that their head gaskets are asbestos-free now and much better than used to be.
I am replacing all gaskets in my engine and I've purchased 2 kits from VR for top and bottom of the engine. ECS didn't have top kits from Elring in stock so I went with VR. Also I wasn't planning to replace the head gasket initially, so I didn't really care about the HG quality that came in the kit. I changed my mind recently, and decided to replace the HG as well while the engine is out.
Now I don't know what to do - use VR gasket from the kit or stay away from it as much as possible.
Need your advice.

In my many years working on these cars, I have NEVER had a quality issue with Victor Reinz products.

In my experience, most gasket-related issues (upon installation, not due to age-related decay) are due to user error, not quality of manufacture. I too have never had an issue with VR.

I've seen brand new VR valve cover gaskets leak profusely. I have not had any other experience with them than that.
