1985 euro 635 idle speed up and down...................

hello fellow bimmer-holics, first post here, just joined. Quick question...............my 635 euro 5 speed's idle searches for an idle speed. i cleaned /replaced the aic, sprayed carb-choke cleaner with no apparent vacuum leaks, and swapped out the ecu. i'm thinking the tps is bad, or at the least, out of adjustment. any suggestions? also, where can i buy a scanner to read the on board codes? any help is much appreciated in advance!

Smoke test the intake manifold for vacuum leaks.

That method does not provide reliable confirmation.
An intake smoke test with a smoke machine is the only reliable way to confirm hard to locate leaks.

Sorry, but at the age of you vehicle, this is no OBD.

I would see about purchasing a Bentley Shop Manual to guide you thru the test procedures for the TPS, ect before you start throwing parts at the car.

Just so you know, the idle up/down can typically be 2 things: Vacuum leaks and a dirty ISV.

Oh and please don't spray flammables around the intake anymore, a sparky alternator could light that mix, and make a fireball under the hood. Then you will not have any facial hair, and don't ask me how I know....

ok, so i figured out the loaping idle problem; i forgot that several yrs ago i saw someone on youtube advance the flapper box teeth, which i had done as well, thinking it would help it run a bit richer. i replaced the flapper box with a spare and it seems to run without the up and down idle, bit it still idles high............like 1150 rpm. any thoughts?

You can always check to ensure the throttle cable is loose and has a little bit of play. Next would be to check the throttle plate, and TPS to ensure that they are properly set as per the Bentley. There is an adjustment screw on the throttle plate, but that is only to make sure the plate is properly set.
