Thinking about finding a hardtop. Is it worth it? What is a fair price range? Are then noticeably quieter on the highway?
Working on the 325 reminds me how much I LOVED my old Jeep Wrangler. A bus ate it.
I have one. Yes they are noticeably quieter on highway. They are worth it if you have a place to store it, probably more so in northern climates.
They don’t come up for sale often. Price varies by condition but generally ~$1 - 1.5k . Occasional deals to be had if someone needs to unload to free-up storage. Wiring and attachment kit is getting hard to find and can therefore be pricey.
What does an attachment kit consist of? Why does it need wiring?
It’s really just two special brackets and 4 short bolts that attach to the car. The tension bayonet pins from the rear of the hardtop lock into these. Wiring is optional but activates the rear map lights and rear defroster. The OE wiring kit includes contact pads that allow quick connect with the hardtop. There’s a few DIYs here to create a harness on your own, but you still need the two mounting brackets.
What color is your '94 325?
It's that Moreno? green that looks light blue. I'm not concerned about the color. I can get it color matched when I get some of the minor dings taken care of.
Color? First you have to find a good hardtop with the mounting parts, then check all the seals, then headliner (probably sagging on your head) then worry about color. I have bought and sold about 15 of these. In Md I sell them for $900 to 1300 based on condition and with the mounting kit. I do not have any right now.
For Moregrun, matching color or black looks good. Anything else looks ehhh. I’ve had 2 Moregreun tops in 5 years
Thanks. That price range seems more reasonable. Been seeing them on eBay for $2300. Not worth it for me at that price. I'm assuming the mounting parts are the latches that lock down to the windshield and the deck lid sides?
The mounting kit is just two small box like brackets that mount to the soft top frame and accept the pins from the hardtop. The front lockdown is built into the hardtop. No parts necessary there.
FYI I just dragged home a very nice moregruen 328 last night with the aero package so I have front and rear M Tech bumpers and twisties in that color. I'm about an hour south of you if you need parts
Found it Morea green. I'll make my list.
