I just acquired a 1972 2002.. BR green with brown interior with 79k. Car has been sitting in garage since 1985. It was bought new by my father who just pasted so it's a one owner car. I very tempted to get it running again or maybe just sell it...I don't know. I also acquired his 1998 M3 coupe with 108k that hasn't run in two years. I got that running today started right up after putting in new battery. I think my son is going to take the M3.
Since the 2002 has not run in almost 35 years, it was put away with no prep, probably has something that use to be gas in the tank. I can't turn the engine by hand. Should I bother trying to put it back on the road? Would prolly need all 4 brakes changed along with 4 new tires. Idk about engine, if rust on pistons is keeping it from turning would that mean pulling it out and rebuilding? What would be the average price to do that?
I will try to get some pics soon as I can get all the crap around it moved.
Thanks for looking
Yes,if its in any decent kind of shape I would get it running. Get the book "Ran When Parked" it tells you how to get a 2002 running after several years. Website BMW2002FAQ is the best for that car. Gas tank, lines and carb will all need to be addressed after sitting that long. Worst case, even an engine rebuild isn't that bad on these cars. You might be surprised what the car could be worth. Please post some pics.
Sorry for your loss.
I would not get rid of it.
Definitely post some pictures!

Definitely get it running again and enjoy it!
That BR green is "Agave Green" if the paint is original.

The engine is almost irrelevant. What does the body look like? If it's rust-free or close, it's worth getting it going. Dropping in an engine is cheap; rust is expensive.

Little spots of rust like the one above the front marker light spots on rocker panel and around windows. If I got this now and was 20 years younger I would restore it but I'm getting too old for this sh*t. I'll see if I can drag it out of the garage wash it then going to try and sell it.
Sell it? Have pics?
