E46 automatic trans electric fan test

I am replacing water pump , thermostat and radiator on a newly aquired 2002 325xi . I have torn down all to access such parts and removed electric fan also to check it . I did not check fan function before removal ! At plug (red , black and blue wires)If i jump red and blue wires with 12v the fan runs . Does this mean the fan is ok ? I would assume the black is a ground and jumping the black to either red or blue the fan would have ran ?

Considering this is a pulsewidth modulated control fan, you risk frying a lot of stuff by using that awful test.
