Has anyone ever stored their Z car for the winter and when taking it out of storage, the clutch began slipping? Fluid level is okay and no drips on garage floor. Any suggestions?
How many miles on the car. Ctertainly a clutch can go out at any time, unless some thing in the pressure plate or disc is stuck. How does the car shift into gear. You could see if after the engine is warmed up by idling and pressing the clutch pedal in and out repeatly does it get any better.
The car has only 65,000 miles and I have been the second owner for four years. The Z4 was garaged all winter and when I took it out of storage and began driving it, the clutch began slipping. I researched it and found that sometimes the slave cylinder will not fully release the clutch disc. If I do not try to step on it, it works normally. I am having the slave cylinder bled this week and we will see if that works. Up until a few days ago, I have never had any trouble with this vehicle. The clutch has always worked and engaged properly. Thank you for your advice.
After properly bleeding the slave cylinder, the slipping persisted. I had several good friends who are excellent mechanics drive the car and we decided it was the dual mass flywheel and disc causing the problem. I replaced the flywheel with a single mass conversion kit and now the Z4 drives like new.
