I'm currently building an n73b60 swapped e46 coupe and am stuck with a steering rack issue.
with the exhausts fitted, the pinion is right inline with the exhaust manifold so even with uj trickery I'm not going to be able to fit a steering column.
ideally, id move the pinion about an inch to the left of the below picture, but then I'd have uneven steering lock.
does anyone know if any racks are particularly longer than others? I'm thinking 6 or 7 series or maybe x5/6
Moved here and hoping you get some help!

You could offset the rack 1” and custom make a 1” spacer with a male thread on one side for the rack and female thread for the tie rod to put on the other side to center it up. But you are going to mess with the geometry and potentially introduce undesireable bump steer.

You can keep the R&P right there-not mess with the bumpsteer - just add another u-joint to the steering linkage. Will have to add a center support.
I'm more interested in how you are going to control the valvetronics.
