Should my build date 3/00 '01 e38 have voice control? If so, I can't get it to work. Help please.

It was always an option - if you have it you will have a button on the steering wheel as shown in the list below:

I don't have it but I read online if I install a SES module it should work, correct? Also I don't have that button on my steering wheel, only the phone icon button. Will that button work with Voice control if the SES is installed?

I am also in the process of installing a Bluetooth tcu, don't I need the session for Bluetooth?

No, you can just install an SES jumper in place of the SES module and the TCU will work fine.

Yes, it will work - it requires a long press of the phone button to activate. Its quite a job as the whole harness from the front phone right through to the phone module in the boot/trunk has to be replaced.

I think SES Voice came online 9/00.

I use mine regularly for phone and nav. To get the most out of it, be sure to read the user manual (linked at the bottom of my DIY). I made a small flash card of voice commands and keep it on my sun visor. If you install an SES Voice module, you'll need to swap your steering wheel buttons from "phone" to "voice".

If you plan to use voice for phone only, the TCU has this functionality already built-in.
