I am getting a parking brake malfunction error reading on my 2008 BMW X5 4.8 The parking brake is apparently engaged when I park the car, so I'm confused. I just bought this car and was told by the previous owner that he changed the brakes on this car.
The car drives fine.
Any suggestions?

The parking brake system uses a electricity motor in a gear box to set the parking brake. there is probably the plastic gear in the unit that is broken or failing at least in the earlier designs that was a common problem. You would have to remove it to check it or something else in that system is having an issue, somebody needs to diagnosis it
