4 spoke to 3 spoke Steering wheel swap

I am planning to do the 4 spoke to 3 spoke steering wheel swap on my 98. I purchased a 3 spoke wheel with the proper single stage airbag and clock spring already.

Will I need any other parts for this?

What should the bolt be torqued down to after the wheel is swapped?

Is there any advice for doing this from someone who might have already?

    Thanks.

Disconnect the battery before you begin. Torque bolt to 63nm.(46 ft/lbs).
Its a very straightforward swap. Should not take more than 15-20 min.

10 Wheel.jpgI upgraded to a 3 spoke wheel earlier this year. Like they previous poster stated its a 15 minute job. You could have reused the clock spring from the 4 spoke wheel as they are the same. Here is a write up on the job. If you don't have a torque wrench, just get it good and tight.

Easiest swap ever. I just marked the splines with a Sharpie before removal to make sure I got lined up again. If you somehow mess up, it's ONE bolt. Fitting the wheel takes less time than bolting the airbag back on.

Thanks. I plan to tackle this as soon as I get the car out of storage. Good to hear it is relatively easy

Ok. I’ll play devils advocate. Do we know who makes the airbag for these replacement wheels ? I hope you’re not getting someone’s takata reject.

None of the Z3 models were ever in the initial or subsequent recalls, so I think it's safe to say NO here (and there is TOO MUCH evidence already of deployed airbags as a result of collisions, without them adding personal injury).
