    Question New Bimmer, Help Wanted!

Greetings fellow e23 owners, I just recently purchased a 4 spd automatic '83 733i. I am new to the car game, so it is safe to say that I know nothing. I was hoping to inquire about a couple things regarding my car and the process of restoring it. First off, is there anything I should check in the car concerning the mechanical functionality? I received the car in working condition, but I am sure there are some major potential problems that could be prevented with a little bit of proactive replacement/repair. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Second, what are the best sites to buy replacement parts (if any)? I am aware of ECS Tuning, ebay, craigslist, all of which provide solid options, but specific e23 parts seem to be few and far between. And last question, where can I find aftermarket parts/body kits to spice up my bimmer? I want to eventually equip a ducktail and some nice sideskirts and such, but I cannot seem to find anything consistent no matter how much searching I do. Thank you in advance for any replies. I will put pictures in the thread.

Welcome to this world, its pretty unique. I would say for any cosmetic parts you are limited to used and from the sources you mentioned above. In addition this board is a good place to pick ups some used stuff from good sellers. I buy a lot of parts from getbmwparts.com, the places you mentioned, and bluntech. There are a few others but just make your ask here and you will get some good direction. As far as mechanical stuff, these cars are most affected by vacuum leaks, but you will need to give us some info as to miles on the car, last time service stuff was done, accessories, etc..

There is a ton of great information here. Do your research, ask the questions and you'll find a lot of help.

The only place I have seen aftermarket e23 front valences still being manufactured is Russia. This is not a car you are going to find side skirts for.

I thought the 4speed auto wasn’t available until 1984? My 83 has the 3 speed box.

The owner before me replaced the original transmission with the 4 spd.

not sure if it is allowed to mention another website, but take a look over in the parts for sale listing over at mye28.com. There is a guy selling Alpina front spoiler reproductions.

Bondo is right, I've only seen one used pair of e23 side skirts for sale in the past 5 years.
