    Question E36's M50 Exhaust manifold bolt size/type

So... I'm not into doing exhaust manifold studs and I'mma replace them with bolts.. What size and type/material of bolt should I use?
My car is a e36 325i M50 stock exhaust manifold.
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

the studs are M7x 1.0 mm
bolts are more likely to loosen than stud & nut

What's your plan here? The OEM studs are screw-in for the M50 exhaust manifolds, and they work great. Bolts don't work very well because the M50 flange (unlike M52) isn't flat on the back side. Replace them with new OEM studs and OEM copper nuts- this is objectively the best solution.

You may have to drill out the original studs and re-tap the holes if they are damaged. It sucks and will take a lot of time and drill bits.

I had to take my manifold off to machine the head and the studs were really rusted out and even seized to the nuts and as I can't get these studs anywhere where I live - I was thinking about replacing them with bolts

It'll (kind of) work if you can't get the studs- they're available from the dealer and most online parts distributors. As I mentioned, the flange isn't flat on the non-mating side so you won't get much clamping force out of them.

Studs are #3 in this diagram: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=11_1087
