    E38 740d racecar

I recently bought a diesel v8 converted from 728i for a steal. The thing came with the m67, original Alpina B12 interior and more goodies! Going to strip the interior and sell it(message me if you're interested) and later on, the engine.

Me and some friends talked about maybe splitting some money and getting a racing team ready for the season and just now the idea of using my 740d. With a simple tune people say it can achive 330hp and almost 800nm, so the numbers add up. We're talking proper suspension, straight exhaust, rolling cage. Anybody know how much a regular sized e38 with no interior and lighter wheels + all the other amenities removed would weigh? Can E38s be good racers?

I’m bout to do the same with an E38 740iL I picked up as a parts car for the 750iL. Hate to see the chassis go to waste so give it a second life in budget endurance racing.

With some weight stripped out of it you could easily get it to perform like an over-grown M5. A stock short wheelbase 740i is only about 250 lbs heavier than an M5 to start with. It's got some disadvantages, but nothing crippling for track work. Too big to ever do well at autocross or other tight-quarters work though.

I have been taking mine to the track for a couple of years. Everyone including myself is surprised how well such a big car does. Not sure you will get the HP that high with a tune? The first thing you will need is good brakes and good tires. I put 750 brakes on the front and I can get the car into ABS on any corner for a full 30min driving session. I put continental extreme spot contacts on some aftermarket 18" and I have no complaints.

Here is a website selling regular chip tunes: https://www.bestchip.no/biler/bmw/bm...e38-740d-245hk

330hp and 740nm. There is a 238hp engine and a 245hp version. Any difference in hardware between these two?

Here is the 238hp version: https://www.bestchip.no/biler/bmw/bm...e38-740d-238hk
