The A/C on my 03 540i was not cooling very well a while back, then it released a bunch of refrigerant from the relief valve one day. Come to find out, the condenser fan wasnt working which is why the system became over-pressurized.
The fuses are good, and I have 12V, ground, and a varying voltage on the third control wire. Fan spins by hand freely, but wont turn on.
I picked up a spare fan from a 02 530i at the junkyard, plugged it in but its dead as well. Opened it up and it was very dusty inside so I'll clean it out with some electrical cleaner and see if it helps. There is a ton of circuitry on the control board, so a lot can go wrong there too.
Has anybody gotten these fans working again?
Can you run the fan with INPA?
DME/DDE -> Activate -> Electric fan -> x%
Update: I added a can of R134A to the A/C and it started trying to kick the old fan over, it would move a little then stop again. If I used a stick to turn it a little, it would finally spin up and work until turned off again.
Ordered a new fan from FCP and installed it, everything works great now! Need to get the system properly evacuated and filled, but it works fine on the not-full charge for now.
