Hey peeps I have the dreaded P0741 code ("stuck off")....it seems to be at the infancy of a problem and I want to deal with it before it gets worse. I still haven't obtained any kind of maint/repair history on the car yet, but it is a 2003 530i with 167,000 miles. The engine runs smooth and strong, and the transmission shifts very smoothly.
I was quoted $1700 parts and labor for replacing the TC. No, I don't and can't do this work myself, lol..
Our mechanic said there is one replacement TC he knows of that is an improvement over the OEM ZF TC for $800 bucks
Level 10 offers one for about 700
I read somewhere somebody here suggesting the Revmax TorqueConvertor for about 500 (not the increased stall speed) And though the price is attractive I'm not convinced.
I have no aspirations with this car except to make it the most dependable as can be......and that alone suggests to me that a TC from ZF may not be the best bet. What do you think? Would you increase the stall speed? I'm not at all looking to attempt to turn the car into a Faux M-sport, FWIW
Secondly, I did also read somewhere that a ZF technician suggested the Valvoline Synthetic ATF instead of Pentosin or ZF fluid. What do you suggest?
