    M Force 1

Finally legal to drive in Texas with some new plates!

Since getting it home, I've added a trunk spoiler (always wanted this on my last E38, never got around to it), a GMRS antenna mount (we use these for CCA cruises, which is this car's primary duty), and replaced all the hood and trunk bump springs so they pop open correctly.

Very nice touch with the spoiler on the trunk. This car deserves these little M Details...

Glad to see that the beast is street legal, and the awesome plates.

Which mount and radio brands ya'll using? for next time...

I won't be able to make the cruise like I wanted to this weekend, Celebrating the nephews B-Day party.

I use Tram NMO trunk lip mounts and Tram antennas. Easily had on Amazon and cheap. I have a roll of Xpel that's about 3" wide that I think I also found on Amazon, and I wrap a little strip in the middle of the trunk lid before I clip the mount on. For Radios, I've tried a lot, but for casual GMRS I've not found anything that works better than Midland. I have a set of X-Talkers that have been great, but in the cars I have an MXT-275 that I trunk mount (it comes with a hot-swap bracket so it's easy move between cars). It has all the controls built into the handset so I run a CAT5 wire up into the cabin and terminate it in a female-female coupler which I usually mount to the side of the center console with 3M red tape right by the passenger seat belt receptacle. Haven't finished the install in this car yet because I don't know quite where to mount that jack since everything is covered in leather. I may 3D print a little clip that friction fits between the console and the carpet or something.

Also added a Blend Mount and Mirror Tap so I can use my Uniden R3 in this car. These mounts are infuriatingly expensive for what they are, but they work so perfectly it's hard not to just spend the money.

Looking good! I look forward to watching her progress in your hands! I still have those SRS covers in the box and will send those to you right away! My apologies for that as things have been full throttle for me since you bought the car!

I'm surprised your radar dectector will work in that location with the IR windshield.

Uh good point. It won’t ( at least not as effectively as it should ). I mount the V1 in the little cutout at the bottom center.

I've not noticed any issues with that location. It definitely picks up known stationary K and Ka at the same distances my other cars do. Now I'll have to do some real testing though, as you've sown the seed of doubt.

No kidding. It was parked behind a brand new McLaren Senna when I picked it up on Friday, and within 20 feet of an F40 and a 959. They keep it on a battery tender, detail it when I bring it back from playing with it, and will start it up every now and then if I'm not around. Doesn't suck.

And your beauty was blocking my car in when I showed up last week! I thought I was having a dream when I saw Brandon's car sitting two in front of mine. Look for a track trashed E39 M5 next time you're in there, silver on black with a BBK, muffler delete, and the track wheels on it and that's mine. I've got it for the next few weeks to do some prep work on it but it'll be back in the garage soon.

Can't wait to see what happens to this thing. Subtle mods are great, the car is already so killer.

SIGH. Just had the o-rings on the bank 2 vans solenoids replaced, the car was bleeding oil badly, especially when cold. Now, this lovely Christmas tree of lights. I assume this is a wheel speed sensor or some such thing, need to drag out the INPA laptop and see what there is to be seen. The fault lights are intermittent but annoying. I don't drive the car that often, maybe 5 days a month, but I just want to get in and go when the mood strikes, and that's not been my reality as of late.

That is surprising on the o rings. Those were all new so not sure why that would happen in only 2 years. The car never burned/lost any oil.

I would imagine you are probably right on the trifecta being a wheel speed sensor as it's a common cause of those and if I recall, it already had a rebuilt abs module in it. I dont recall if I replaced any/all of the speed sensors.

So sorry you are having issues as I had zero problems with anything mechanical in the 2 years I had the car. I do know BMW's like to be driven often or they get fickle.

Most likely speed sensor, cheap and easy to replace. But only buy Siemens-VDO or genuine, everything else is useless. I have had no issues with Siemens-VDO.

I've started on the CAD work to produce a proper iDrive controller mount. Currently the controller happens to just sit fairly snug in the casette holder in the console. My plan is to pull the casette holder out entirely including the door, and replace it with a real mount. I've also sourced a radio faceplate from an F30 that I'm going to try and pull the on/off/volume knob out of, so I can hopefully wire that in. There is no "off" on the NBT system currently, which is not the end of the world, but I think I can make it better.

The sunroof on this car has never been quite right. Diagnosing some wind noise with the inner sun shade open but the roof closed. Masking off the seams makes it silent on the inside, so planning to replace the flocked felt outer seal. Planning to order 54128169710 though it seems that part number might be out of date. Our parts guys at BMW of Austin know their shit, so they'll find the right one. Plus my account there is marked for wholesale pricing, so almost always cheaper than buying online plus no shipping costs.

Also de-nibbed the tires, because once someone tells you that's a thing, you can't unsee it.

Make sure the floats which are number 14 is still installed. This can cause wind noise with the sunroof cover open also. They lift up to open the front drains when there is water...

I would like to see pictures when your MXT-275 install is complete. I have contemplated installing a GMRS radio. Looking for inspiration on where to mount it. I have wondered if it is possible to re-purpose the dual-band antenna on the roof for such a radio (or even my Uniden scanner)... Not quite sure I understand the wiring diagram for that nor its frequency capabilities. I seem to recall disconnecting an antenna wire from an old phone box in the trunk when I installed a TCU from a Z8; also disconnected an antenna wire in front armrest when removing the phone cradle.

Your idea for a custom 3D printed clip seems like a good one.
