Are the automatic transmissions in e34 same for 525/530/540?
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do , not all the same, 540 has a 5HP30, see details here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZF_5HP_transmission
525 also depends on built year and which 525 engine, some have 4HP22 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=24_0055
525i M50B25TÜ and 530i M60B30 5HP18 based on wiki, at least the EURO models

Shogun tricks and tips for the E32 series are HERE!
No, different models because they are rated by torque spec of the engine and also how much BMW were selling them for in the local market.
The m20 got a 4 spd auto, and for the m50 the USA got GM 4spd autos too (rest of the world got 5spd autos for 6cyl - mostly zf 5hp18 - maybe because they were sold at twice the price (or more) than the USA market prices?)
But the USA did get ZF 5spd autos for the V8 models that sold for more money. I know the 540 got a zf5hp30, but not sure if the 530 did. They could have got a 5hp18, a 5hp30, or something in between (I'm not going to trust wiki but probably a zf 5hp18 if they were still using it on 530i e38s)
E: So even in the USA, a m20 car is going to have a zf 4spd, a m50 car is going to have a GM 4 spd 4L30-E, the 530 is going to have a zf 5hp18 and a 540 is going to have a zf 5hp30.
The E34 - a million cars sold and nearly all of them differ. They could never stop changing it every september and sometimes August, March or whenever!
