    Help decide

Hi to all, I am looking into buying a 330i or a 328i, the E46 that I have look at are crazy expensive, people want a lot of money for a 140k plus car. The E90 seems to be price a little more reasonable. I don't want to race the car, just a fun standard shift car to drive, one that I can do most of the work myself. Should I consider an E90?

I've only had mine for 3 weeks, but I love it so far. To be honest though, you're on the e90 forum; who here is going to say no to an e90?

I understand I am in the E90, but what I am looking for is the part about doing most of the work myself. Thanks for answering.

Not really, just fact gathering from people that own a E90 before I take the plunge. I would like to be able to do most of the maintenance/ repair without having to go to a repair facility. I like working on cars , not an expert by any means, but handy with mechanical issues. I know repairs on BMW's can get expensive, and would like to reduced the expenses while having a hobby type of fun. Thanks.

Big picture is, working on a BMW is substantially harder than working on a Japanese car and WAY cheaper than paying someone else to do it.

Thanks for the answer, I am an Electronic Engineer familiar with multi meters, oscilloscope, CAN communication/ sensors troubleshooting, mechanical, electronics repairs. I have worked for the last 25 years on Xray , and Computer tomography. They have major mechanical/electronics components, and software diagnostic for troubleshooting (windows, Linus and Unix), . I imagine that they are more difficult to work than the average car, but are the right software and manuals available? Can a private person get the right tools for troubleshooting/ repair? Thanks for taking the time, really appreciated it.

Yes, absolutely. First you need Rheingold ISTA (free download) and a K+DCAN cable. Available for $15 on eBay, but the Bimmergeeks cable for $45 is a safer choice.

Thanks a million , I think I will go this way with an E90, you have been a lot of help. I might bother you guys in the future. I saw a 2007 $7K , 75K miles and a 2011 9K 75K miles. I will search the forum for the recommended things to do once I get the car. Again Thanks.
