    radio in my new z3

Realized yesterday while cruising that the rear speakers have very little volume so I keep the fader to front only. Where do I start to resolve this issue. It's a stock radio with one cd slot. Speakers all stock too.

I presume this is a roadster with the tiny, tiny rear speakers? Does it have an amp in the boot (trunk)? If not, the standard headunit has terrible power output and the crappy speakers are useless. Apart from that, it's all good.

Keep the head unit if it fits your needs. Replace the amp(s) and speakers. Crutchfield reportedly has adapters for the stock harness to allow connection to a aftermarket amp. The amp will be in the trunk passenger side behind the liner. A second amp may be on the driver side if you have the Harmon Cardin stereo. Do you have a sub between the seats ? The rear speaker holes will probably need to be enlarged to accept most 4” speakers but can be done easily just mind the seatbelt retractor. Upgrading the sound was one of the best mods you can do to really boost the enjoyment of driving. I’m running a 5 channel amp driving a 8” sub and it rocks

ok thanks. I'll check this weekend about the amps in trunk. I do have the stock sound system in the car with a grill in back between the seats. But no sound comes from it. I guess I need to operate and see what's this sound system is all about. Front stuff sounds ok just nothing from rear. I'm old and don't really want to rattle the doors but I would like to hear the doobies and skynard better.

https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...dapter-harness. Here’s where it’s mentioned but I can’t personally confirm. I make my own wiring connections.

Ah, I thought you meant an adapter at the amp end of the harness, which would be something.

Yes I’m not sure if they have that end or not but it’s not inconceivable. I’d never go back to the stock configuration so maintaining the stock plug didn’t matter to me. Luckily the PO of my car had rca ran to the trunk.
