    Tire pressure sensor light

    Hi guys,

I'm struggling with this issue for a while, from what I've read it is a pretty common issue as well for e46 owners, but I haven't found any solutions yet. The light for the tire pressure on my 2001 e46 320ci comes on after about 15mins driving, but also disappears after a while as well. I'm mildly irritated, because there are no error codes either and I know that probably either 1 or more sensors have gone bad or a receiver. I've tried resetting it, but comes back on. Is there a way to program this out or something?

    Grtz

Well the E-46 doesn't use a sensor in the tires, it uses the ABS sensor to initially determine the circumference of the tire.

Do you have the tire button down in the middle console? Wondering as sometimes you can retrofit this option in.

So the solution is to go to a shop that can talk to the ABS/DSC module and have them reset the tire threshold values.

Hi mate, thanks for your answer. I read somewhere that e46's use both systems, tyre pressure sensors with antennae ànd ABS control system. This information is wrong then? I have an RDC button in the middle console down, yes.

It only uses the single system (E-46's), however on the newer BMW's like the F-body, they do use both, as the wife 220i does that.

Not sure where in the world you are located at, but if you swap summer/winter tyres, you would need to get the system reset everytime.

By reset the system you mean putitng the key in 2 and holding the RDC button untill light comes one and disappears, ultimately resetting the system? Or meaning going to a shop and having the module threshold reset?

By reset, I mean going to the shop who can talk to the ABS/DSC module and clearing the threshold data out.

Also if you are a bit of a DIYer, you can purchase a cable and software, INPA BMW diagnostic, for around 30 bucks and do it yourself. This program will allow you to talk to every module in the car, so worth having a look at.

Yes I am and I have the software installed with the OBD cable at my disposal. Hence my initial question if it was possible to code/program it out somehow. No idea how I would do that, but I'll figure it out. Thanks a lot for the help, mate.

It maybe possible to use NCS Expert to remove it sure, but it only takes a couple of minutes with INPA to reset it anyway.
