Spent the better part of a year performing the timing chain guide job on my 2003 540i mtech.
Removed both heads during the process and sent them out for reconditioning. Ended up replacing 6 intake, 6 exhaust valves, stem seals and all cam followers.
Reassembled with all new timing guides, chains, head gaskets, head bolts, exhaust gaskets, cover gaskets, front main seal, hoses, belts, tensioners, etc, etc...
Timed using the German Auto Solutions kit.
First time started, it threw an over advanced code on bank 2. Open it up and timed again and now it is throwing a P0022 code (over retarded bank 2).
Anyhow, I don't mind fighting the timing (next attempt will be another timing check and a swap of the vanos solenoids).
What I could use some opinions on is the noise that seems to be coming from the rear of bank 2. Sounds like the engine is exhausting into the manifold. Any thoughts on what might be occurring. Hoping it isn't a burnt valve as I am not looking forward to pulling the head again....

Engine Cold
Engine Warm
Your P0022 is indicating that the vanos isn't functioning.
Did you replace the o-rings in it? Possibly the vanos is stuck?
Your cold engine noise sounds like something metal is rubbing.
What was wrong that required all those valves to be changed?

Timed it with the original valves and heads on following the G.A.S. guidelines. Pulled the cam blocks and went to rotate the engine to double check timing and one of the cam bolts wasn’t snug enough and backed out. Ended up bending valves which led to the head work. Not a happy day.
Didn’t replace the vanos seals.
Did have to wrestle with the bank 2 head while getting it back on. Wondering if I possibly nicked a valve in the process.
I am thinking I won’t know until I pull it again (ouch my back...).
