Your issue could be something else — incorrectly adjusted throttle cable or stop. Generally when it ran fine before and I changed something and then it did not run fine, I study the work I did.
Yes it wouldn’t matter if the leak was pulling air prior to the maf through the bov horn. But the leak is on the spring/pressure source inlet. So air is being pulled into the manifold after the maf. My assumption is the worn diaphragm is a minor issue at idle but once stressed with higher vac rating from lifting throttle it widens the crack. So more air is leaking in. When boost leak testing it’s equal pressure on either side of the piston an I couldn’t find anything.

    Do you have a wideband?

Are you going lean when it stalls?

Yes it goes lean right before stalling.
I disassembled the bov and the diaphram is craking around the exterior and has worn away what would be a seal around the piston. Its an old AA bov, I contacted to see If they still have parts for it. Otherwise ill get a GReddy to keep my mounting flange the same.

AA shifted the design to a differant material but still support the old BOV. In the meantime i added some o rings around the piston shaft and fabricated a missing upper spring perch. It still leaks but i reduced the leak enough to drive the car and prove to myself it was the issue. Thanks for the help everyone, chapter closed.

For anyone in the future with an old AA bov, I had to make new spring retainers/ seats top an bottom. I suppose you could go without but I wanted a more even distribution of spring pressure on the bottom. The top needs something so you can tighten the spring if needed and I didn’t have one originally. I opted to take the time apart an add a push lock fitting and remove the standard nipple. I also printed both the retainers so they are lighter, more accurate, and modified the upper with holes to allow more air to the new fitting.

    are slow.
I'm not sure how a faulty BOV would do this, but good move looking into it.

Page 6, last paragraph. Guess it could be possible.

    That's a lot of screwdrivers.

BOV can do this when leaking or not piped right. Very common issue on turning cars that are not running a factory BOV. It has to be perfect or issues arise. Sometimes the MAF is the issue too but its usually the issue because its trying to compensate for the BOV leak. Happened on my 2JZ too, raising the idle helped temporarily but fixing vacuum leaks is the cure.

Fix for an old problem. Ended up being a bad o2 sensor. Not bad enough to throw a CEL but it solved my issue.
