    Cruise control quirk

I have a 2000 528i with 138k miles. If I turn on cruise control and hit set, it might work about 5% of the time. If I hit set, and the the + it engages every time. Anybody have any ideas as to what the heck is going on here? Thanks!

Yea, so I accidentally just answered my own question while searching for replacement buttons because most of the black is worn off mine. The + actually sets the cruise. Mods feel free to delete if desired

Huh, do you know what the other button above the on off does?

The button with an icon that looks like a speedo returns you to previously set speed. When you first turn on the cruise control system, you need to set your speed with the '+' button which then stores that speed in memory, then if you have to slow down for traffic/corner/whatever, when you can get back up to speed you just press the button with a little dial to accelerate to the saved speed automatically.

If you accelerate to pass someone using the pedal, it should automatically re-engage the saved speed once you coasted back down to it.

0/1 turns the system on and off with a long press as well as cancelling cruise control if tapped.

To give visual & textual verification of what shwy explained in his post above...here's the info from the owners manual that explains how to use the cruise control buttons:

But if you happen to have an early build e38 or e39 you may have a redundant CC button that is on the dash...if you have this set-up...then to initiate CC...you must press the button on the dash to initiate cruise control...then you use the buttons on the steering wheel to set/increase/decrease/resume:
