Hi, i'm new and haven't seen anyone post anything new on the subject (last discussion 2011?) I need to replace my ccv system on my bmw x5 2001 e53 m54.
I had a few questions. The FCP euro site has the cold climate pcv breather kit
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...11617533400kt6
It's also listed on amazon for waaaaaay less.

So i shouldn't buy the cheaper one right?????? I'm tempted. $182 is alot for a kit.
I live in north idaho, it gets to the 9-15 degrees at night during the winter so i'm assuming in need the cold weather version right? A shop quoted me at $550 to replace it and i'm assuming they wouldn't put the cold weather version on my car.....Otherwise they would have charged me more? The job takes a while and the parts are 200$?

Have you bothered to compare the warranties?, you get what you pay for.
Cold weather version would be best for you.
I plan to do this one on my m54 e53.. For bulletproofing, because I'm scared of hydrolock, and I hate the mayo..
Probably the cheapest option too..

I am going to remove the intake manifold (i need to right?). Are there other parts i should replace while the manifold is off that go bad regularly?
I've done the CCV job countless times. Never once have I removed the intake manifold.

Do you have an x5? Not sure what kind of room other models have but the x5 is packed. Do you move parts out of the way or do you use tools that fit in tiny places? Not removing the manifold sounds great.
Replace the coolant plastic pipes while your manifold is off and replace all those little vacuum hoses and rubber cap at the end of the mainfold
I'm a BMW tech. I've done the job on every vehicle ever equipped with the M54 engine. If you remove the DISA valve and throttle body, you'll see what you need to do. And unbolt the three bolts/nuts holding the wiring harness unit on so it'll move around and give you some access.
