    Door speaker recommendations?

Pulled my doors apart today on my 98 2.8 roadster and replaced the window sliders. Noted that one of the driver side door speakers was broken off from its mount and did not look too good. I don’t know if there is supposed to be a flexible cover over the cone, or if the cone itself has messed up and wrinkled, but it looks crappy. Neither speaker worked when I plugged them back in and tested with them out of the door panel. The right side ones were working OK before I put the door back together, but now they sound like crap. (Connectors are correct on each side and not reversed). Not sure what’s going on there.

I went through the archives, including the thread on speaker replacement, and the only reference to actual speakers was the BavSound complete upgrade kit ($400!!). I just want to replace the 4 door speakers. What has everyone else used in the doors?

On another note, after I pulled the old sliders, I cleaned the ball posts and lubed them, then installed the new sliders. I noticed that they were VERY tight on the posts, taking more effort to turn them to get them lined up with the tracks than I would have thought. Is this normal?
    Thanks

I found the same thing when I lubed sliders over five years ago, and I just replaced the one tweeter speaker.

Last year I ordered but have not installed a basic speaker set from Crutchfield. It seemed like a cost effective upgrade for the old original speakers.

Their rep said I could leave or remove the mid-range speakers in the doors, whichever sounded best.

I went with JBL GTO509C 5.25 components which are about $100 on ebay and supposed to handle up to 200W RMS, and run them on 2 channels of a NVX JAD800.4 amp with a 60-80hz high pass Xover setting up to about 3/4 gain.

They sound great, get very loud for what they are, and handle the power..
If you think you might ever build out your system in the future these are good ones to be able to run hard on an amp..

For the $400 you could have the fronts, the rears, and the amp.

To add variety, I have these, very pleased: https://www.jehnert.de/en/shop/doorb...y-soundsystem/

With addition to that I have 4 channel class D amp and a twin ported sub that I engineered with baltic birch / carbon fiber box and 2 Tangband W6-1139SG elements. Tuned to 35Hz.

All elements are with neodymium magnets to keep the weight as low as ever possible.
