Getting The 6 Back on the Road.

I've owned this car since 2012. And I've put maybe 100 Miles on it. it's been a super slow process but each year has been a little closer to actually getting it to become a usable car.

-- Decided To make this thread to help motivate me toward finishing the odds and ends it needs to become reliable once again.

I drove it last year about 100 Miles to Euro Hanger First and Only Car show I've ever been to with it. Unfortunately on the way home it started acting like it was running out of fuel. Well, it was the fuel system is totally fouled from way to many years of sitting in the garage. She's been sitting another 8 months since then.

The Frozen North Is finally starting to thaw out and this year I intend to drive this car as much as I can.

Well, Below are some fun images while I work on getting the fuel tank cleaned up.
I decided to use POR 15 Fuel Seal kit.

Last picture is what the car looked like when i got her in 2012

Accomplished some more small tasks on the 6 Tonight while i wait for the Seal Kit to cure in the fuel tank.

-Fixed the dome light in the trunk someone decided instead of unplugging it cutting it made more sense.

    - Replaced all the Vent Hose with New Hose. In the trunk. Little bit of dish soap made it all go way easier.

I used 1/4Inch Fuel Hoes Since it's not High Pressure and bmw wants too much for there 6mm hose.

I also replaced my broken center console with a new "used" one. Unfortunately this one doesn't have memory seat so i just hid the wiring for it under the cover.

So far the tank cleaning process is going great. way better then spending 800 on a new one!

degreaseing and Metal Etching left a bunch of crud in the tank. So, I used a piece of Pex tubing and taped it to my vacuum to clean the inside of the tank .

Sealer Pored in nicely. can't wait till all the new parts come in the mail.

That is a creative way to empty the tank, well done!
Do you rotate the tank until the sealant has dried?

The Stuff is actually surprisingly thin. I just slowly rolled the tank up side down and around until all surfaces had a nice coating on it. I then used the petcock on the bottom of the tank to drain the excess into a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket. They State it needs 96 hours to fully cure but after about an hour it was moving pretty slowly in the tank.

Today didn't get too much done.

Vacuumed the carpets, Fixed the seat belt Tension and ordered some goodies online.

Decided to just throw the back half of the exhaust away.

I want to order Ireland Engineering Headers but they are out of stock current.

So, guess my car is going to sound pretty bad for now.

    Pictures attached of today's adventures.

That's a great interior - one of my favorites, especially on a black car.

    I should update this!

I've had more then a few 6's this is just the one that stole my heart.

As for the Fin back there yeah.. you've got a good eye. It's a 1963 Ford Fairlane.

My family has a long history with the blue oval. I love the car it's a maybarry cop car replica.

Here in Detroit it's a requirement to own some american iron.

    Small Progress today.

Fixed a bolt that had been stripped my seat had only been mounted with 3 bolts for the longest time.

Felt good to fix that problem.

Wow..sexy E24, love it (and those AC Schnitzers), at first I thought it was a M6 from the grill badge.

I just bought the entire Ireland Engineering headers and cat back, I'm crazy about the massive muffler they used on the catback just before the tailpipes, and thinking about sending it back and building my own or removing theirs and dropping in a smaller, lighter and possibly better sounding Magnaflow...TBD.

Like you my 6 is in pieces, I hope to have it running again in two weeks.

The only reason that grill badge is still on there is because it's super glued.. and I don't want to buy a new grill.

I called up Ireland Engineering and they are out of stock of their headers. Unless you know of another location to get them i'd love to order them.

I just needed to make this thread to motivate myself to finish it. Been too many years of just sitting around. This weekend should be a lot of fun i ordered a crap ton of parts.

Today i decided to fix the turn signal stalk using one out of a 83 7 series I have in the back yard.

Headlights and turn signals were foobar'd and didn't work correctly.

    so, replacement was needed.

it's almost back together but i started to strip out the bolt hole for the air bag... will have to clean the threads up don't even know how i did it.

My car also needs new hinges as the door sags, yours doesn't have this at all?

Honestly, I want to say no, but door does creak really bad when i open it. Was going to hit it with some white lithum grease but it doesn't seem to sag.

Also, great news today. spent me 1100 on New Ireland Engineering headers and Cat Back System I'm super excited. I gave them another call and they "magically" found one buried on the shelf.

Melvin, Before changing out the hinges check the pins and door brake 41511875865. The alignment of the doors are done where the hinge mounts on the door, not the hinge itself or where it mounts on the A column. Also replace the rubber piece 51211823487 on the B column. Roger
