2008 E93 - Truck Latch will not open - makes Noise but stays locked

    Hello,

So here is the situation. I am new to the BMW last year, and so far have been earning my stripes:

    1) Sparkplugs / Coils
    2) Rewired Headlights that were cracking
    3) Rewired the Fan Blower that was overheating the ground
    4) Replaced the Starter

So the latest issue (And the above I don't consider bad for a car 10+ years old) is that the trunk latch whirrs and makes a sound like it is decoupling when activated, then does not open.

So - Can I force the latch to open with the emergency Trunk Release to access it and check it out? I can access when the top is closing / opening from the lid. Or is there some place I should start with Diagnosis. As I said - there appears to be action in the release, but not sure if there is a trick that these sometimes stick etc.

Any and all help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Steve

Does anyone have the link to the technical pages on the trunk assembly- to get started?

    On my 2008 335i E93;
I pop the key out of my FOB, put it in the trunk key-hole, then turn.
This works even with the battery disconnected. (thankfully)

    Woo Hoo!

It worked - so at least now I have a functioning trunk until I have time to trouble shoot the AUTO latch mechanism

Codes2 - did yours also fail in a similar manner?

I would like to be able to understand how to test it while the trunk is open, so that I can set the switches and watch it function (or not function)

    Sorry sesproul,
In my instance, I willfully disconnected the battery for other reasons. Then when the trunk closed, I started hunting for options!

Is there a guide / entry in the manual that someone can point to where the latch is adjusted, now that I can get it open with the key?
