I have a 1985 735i. I am learning about Bmw systems as I go. This car has the hydraulic assisted brakes. I have slowly noticed that the brakes were getting worst and worst and when I pressed the pedal the car would pull to the right and shake. Well the first thing I wanted to do was a fluluid change. I search for the proper procedure and I followed the instructions which I think I found. I first started by testing the accumulator which I believe it is working but, one issue I have is that the directions stated that after 4 or 5 pumps of the pedal with the engine off the pedal would be hard kinda not pushable. This is not the case for me. After I push the pedal several time to empty the accumulator the pedal still feels squishy. Well that is the first thing. The next thing was changing the fluid so I had a friend pump the brakes as I bled them. At the time I was doing this I could only get 3 of the bleeder valves to open, the 4th is stripped will get that fixes. But as I was bleeding the breaks the front right and the driver side rear I got a bunch then air then a bit of fluid here or there but alot of air. I don't know where the air is coming from. I haven't found any leaks and the reservoir is full. I kept trying for a while but could not get the air to go away on the front right or the driver rear. Well I moved to the driver front and I cracked it open and nothing hut fluid the entire time no air at all. So at this point I am assuming that the front left was the only brake working. My question is where is the air coming from and should the pedal be firm after I empty the accumulator?

it takes 20-25 pumps to fully empty the accumulator. After this, the pedal should be so hard you can't really depress it.

I will try it again and update

It sounds like you would benefit from a set of rebuilt font calipers (or all 4) and a new set of brake lines. Then another good fluid flush. Using a pressure bleeder if you have access to one makes a brake bleed job so simple.
Everything is brand new but after the parts were in installed it sat for 5 years.
