Howdy guys
I recently bought a 79 european 323i from a friend's stepdad after asking about it for almost a decade. It needs a transmission, it was ran without oil and the shop he took it to has the trans out and apart.
Considering it may be more economical to find a used good one, I'm looking for suggestions if anyone has or knows where to find a trans. A newer getrag 260 or the like will not work due to the e21's mechanical speedo drive off the trans.
Located in Buffalo, NY, willing to pay shipping of course
Thank you in advance for any info. Here's a shot of my car
Yikes, that’s a rough part to replace. You can technically pull one from an ‘82 528e with a getrag 265. That’s about it aside from another 323 in the era to my knowledge. I had one a while back, but one of the gears was toast. Try over at mye28 or bigcoupe, they might have other solutions.

If you can find a transmission that will work but doesn't have a speedo drive, you could use a GPS unit like this to drive the speedometer: https://www.classicautoinnovations.com/classic I've been a beta tester for more than 2 years on my Austin-Healey to connect the original speedometer to the Ford T5 tranny. Works great.
Hi there - I know a guy in the Virginia area who had two of them last year, I was thinking about buying one but never did.. I’ll send him a text tomorrow and see if he’s still got em.
