Hey Guys,
Asking in the M3 forum to get a bit more performance oriented answer - Looking for coil packs and oem/bosch brands are pretty pricey. In the meantime, I researched coils for our Mini S (has some ignition problems) and ppl in the mini community are using Delphi quite a bit w/o issues.
Checking rockauto (flame me) and they have Delphi coils for the M3 also...for about half of OEM/bosch.
Experience anywhere? Everything I read says go OEM/Bosch...but that was usually dismissing Bav Auto / Bremi coils.
Thanks!
FWIW, late e39s used Delphi from the factory.
BTW, BavAuto is no more if you didn't know.
Bavauto were just a silk screen logo added to ebay coils ($50 for all 6) that did not last.

That link is Bremi....which is cheap everywhere. Is Bremi what BMW used? I thought it was Bosch? (I do have a 95/OBDI that used the 4-hole coils).
Here's what FCP gives me for a '95... $ouchie

BMW used both on the E36 M3.
Very interesting...did not know that. And for bavauto...they say they're dead but you can still shop/add to cart (?).

So my understanding was the OBDI/S50/M50s had the 4 hole coils, which were bosch.
The M52/S52/OBDII cars ran the 2 hole coils, which it looks like were Bremi.
I've read that these are interchangable (obviously ebay/BA coils say '95-99'). But...then why don't good part houses say they interchange?
I think the Bremi and Bosch coils use slightly different rubber boots, so that may be why. Either one will work in the car provided you have the coil and boot.

Older boots were non-resistor, all boots sold nowadays are 1.8k ohm resistance. Only the FI guys care about this.
Just run the Bremi. There is no written rule on OBD1 had this... OBD2 had that... it’s based on what was available at the time. There are plenty of OE Bosch and Bremi in OBD2 cars.
Thanks! Noted and will move forward with them Thanks all for great data. Let this show good quality responses can still be found on the forum and not just on FB junk <3
First, if you have no misfire codes, don't replace your coils. Remember, no matter how 'good' you think a coil is, the coil will only produce enough voltage for the spark to jump the gap.
I'm running Delphi in my track car without issue since April 2018. That's 12 track days total since then pegging the car at 7k RPMs.

FWIW I keep two of my used OEM ones with me when I'm at the track.
So far no issues. I'll let you know if I grenade my motor though.
OP, then swap coils and see if the problem moves to another cylinder, which I don't think it will.
I'll send you a working Bremi or Bosch coil pack for free. I've got lots of spares. Just cover the $3-4 shipping cost. PM me your address if you're interested.
Also, you can check codes by doing this:

You can also buy a 20-pin adapter for your OBD reader.

Hey Hova! Thanks you! but no worries...I'm just gonna get all six new. I have a spare E36 and could just swap them with that but I'm tired of thinking they could be any part of the equation.
I still don't get any CEL with the stomp test or ever while driving, even though the cylinder drop out is obvious. (Drops out, and will stay out for about 2-5 seconds then comes back).
I've had this issue for a while now (...3 years) and I've just been using it as rev limiter of about 5.5k lol. But I want it all back...

Roger that.
Well before you buy 6 new coils, I would do some simple stuff first.
Should also check your engine ground (take off the ground strap, wire wheel both contact areas).
Check alternator power nut.
Spark plug health and gap.
I've seen this issue on E30 S50/ E36 swaps, and usually it ends up being either the DME, the diff speed sensor, or the cluster. Does your MPG gauge work on your cluster? You should pull your speed sensor out of your diff and see if it's chipped or missing a piece. Really though, it's cheap enough I would just change it. It's just 2-10mm bolts.

Let me know if you want to try another DME, crank, cam, etc. Willing to ship them to you to try them out, if they work give me a fair price and ship back whatever you don't use.
These cars are more fun when they can rev to 7k, so lets get you back there lol.

Uh..
I have Bosch 4 hole coils and put BREMI 12131730521 boots on them..
I thought I read that that was good but no? Is that a problem?
They seem to fit and work well..
Pelican says they are correct for the 95 M3 - https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/12131730521.htm?pn=12-13-1-730-521-M18
ECS says they do not - https://www.ecstuning.com/b-bremi-parts/spark-plug-connector-priced-each/12131730521~bri/
But ECS says they fit the 325is but also not the 328is
Don't they all have the same coils?
ECS say none of the boots fit the 95 m3 so they are prolly wrong..
Is this a traction control thinking their is wheelspin and pulling power thing or a crazy seemingly unrelated BMW symptoms thing?

ECS is wrong (I've noticed they get a lot of things wrong with our cars).

12131730521 is what you're looking for. The difference between boots is the resistance in the boot themselves, honestly not that big of a deal unless your turbo or some other kind of forced induction. Boots and coils are replacement items, and they do go bad overtime.
No it's not a traction control issue, it's just the ECU not seeing an accurate reading and throwing it into a limp mode. I've seen it a lot on OBD1 swaps and on r3vlimited.
