    Electrical and fuse gurus needed!

Ok in a previous post I mentioned I was having issues where fuse 19 (blower motor) was blowing as soon as the circuits were switched on. I've since removed the blower motor (that was fun), but found that it tests perfectly on the bench. With the motor disconnected the fuse still blows when the circuits are switched on, so this is leading me to the connection to the fuse box. The wiring diagram below is also pointing me towards the green/brown connection from the fuse to the relay k4. The relay is fine, and I'm figuring if the problem was pre-relay then fuse 21 would also blow? Really could do with some input from the clever people out there as I don't know the next step in investigation here as my electronics skills are only passable.

If I had a penny for everytime someone commented on my poor fuel economy, I'd have enough to get it to the petrol station.

F19 is downstream of the relay - which means nothing above it will cause it to blow. F19 only serves the blower motor via the GREEN/BROWN wire - unless something has been fiddled with. Of course, it could be something in the fusebox itself - and it is also possible that the ETK is wrong - I'll have another look at the other diagrams......

Thanks Timm, I'm leaning towards something in the fusebox but not sure on the procedure for removing it as I can't find anything in the manuals. Any tips?

    Hi,

I had a 30 amp fuse for the air conditioning on my 1995 840 blow repeatedly. I cant recall which fuse number it was but tracked it down to a faulty auxiliary fan in front of the radiator/condenser. Easy to check by removing the cover piece in front of the radiator (6 plastic 1/4 turn locks) & unplug the fan.
    Regards,

I would imagine that was fuse 25 as that's a 30A linked to the aux fan. My aux fan works fine even with the blower motor disconnected but it's worth a shot before I dismantle the fuse box so cheers for the idea.

As an aside can anyone comment on how difficult the fusebox is to remove? Its scary enough looking at all the wiring behind the centre console.

If you have blower motor removed, keep blower motor disconnected, and check resistance from blown fuse to vehicle's ground. See If you have any resistance. If you have some sort of resistance, then do "the wiggle wire harness test" while monitoring resistance results.
