Five years ago I bought a 2001 Dinan 7 Sport with 65k miles on it - in stratus gray over sand beige and the journey began. I've been in an E38 since 2005 and have seen & driven some amazing 7's along the way. At any rate, I'd left this car alone for the most part until recently. Id done timing chain guides and gone through all the usual issues and was looking over the canyon of finding a supercharger or perhaps the S62 swap. The SC kit sells for $6000 and get's you the added horsepower, but no 6 speed. I looked off and on at S62's and cars with blowers installed and kind of quit looking. In October last year I slipped up and found an 85k mile S62 with transmission and a pile of parts. The deal worked out and I pulled the trigger, and Im glad I did. Aside from that I was tired of the sand/beige and started the sand/black swap. Im mostly done with that leaving just the door panels to address and the sunroof panel. After that, the last thing I'll do is have the car painted. The paint is not in awful shape, but the clear on the hood is starting to go and the forward part of the roof has an increasingly dull look. As it's 19 years old now with 91k on the chassis, I think it's time to give her the final touch. Looking to have that done in the spring. The swap, #008 - was completed by our resident expert Trevor in SC.
To my knowledge its the only swap done to an existing Dinan 7 car. The car came with carbon fiber intake, springs, exhaust, throttle body, software & intake. Had it been supercharged I could have gotten away with a transmission swap, but I'm happier the way it worked out. Especially with S62/E39 prices skyrocketing.
I hope this link works, it'd take me a year to upload all these pics. I made the FB album public, should work!

I'll update this thread as I move forward on projects. I wish I'd started it last year!

Very nice!
So cool! I feel like a cheap whore buying an E60 M5. My E38 is so much nicer to drive.

Nice Duke...never noticed you were in G-ville, just down the road from you in Newport on Bogue Sound. Next time I get that
way I'd like to see the ride.
Sweet it must be!
Very nice. Love the DeLorean as well. A friends dad bought one the first year they came out. We were 21 and the mad man let us drive it and the Smokey/Bandit year Trans Am he had. As this was almost 40 years ago, my memory is somewhat foggy about the details of the DeLorean other than it was a dog compared to the TA. It was cool but Back to the Future wasn't out yet so we usually took the TA when he had them out.
Following along, Scott!
Nice! Anytime.

The DMC is Trevor's - but Ive always been a huge fan of those cars. Funny how interests in cars among strangers can be so specifically aligned.

Indeed, I've been here since 2000 and it's changed so much in nearly 20 years - happily for the better. Tons of new places to pub, grub and have a little fun. It's just the right size as well & having ECU creates a great college town atmosphere.

I've never driven an E60 M5 - but my folks have a 2010 750li and it is worlds apart from the E38 in terms of being connected to the driving experience. At least having both gives you the options, right!

The E60 M5 is a beast the exact opposite of the E38. I was looking for an F01 Alpina B7 when I found it local with all the right work done and picked it up for 11k. After I get it to the track if I don't like it I'll sell it. On the other hand after I do the chain guides, vanos, springs and rear diff I'm selling my wife's car and she can drive one of my cars. She is not into cars and I am as well as doing all the wrenching so we keep what I want.

Updated the NBT setup. Previously the controller was in the cubby hole, it fit nice but was not secured, nor could I see the lighting on it without maximum allowable torque-age.

Beautiful!
Re-Focused on finishing the interior black/sand swap. Ordered the black seat rail trim bits, new OE wiper blades, and a new rear 1/4 shade clip.
Yesterday I changed the oil. That 10W-60 is liquid gold! It was the first change since the engine swap, so I drove it 100 days/2000 miles and fed it
a lot of sea foam in the fuel tank. The oil was ready to be changed, I think in large due to the engine being stored for 10 years. It was however beautiful under the valve covers and Blackstone showed an exemplary oil report before I bought it. It is a super smooth running engine. 88k miles on the engine.
At 18 years of age, Im getting close to a respray. I've got a meet coming up in early May and have decided to paint it after that 1000 mile trip to avoid nicks and chips on fresh paint. Im going to take panel by panel photos for my records so if I ever do part with it, it will prove nothing was being hidden. Nearly 20 years is a good lifespan on a factory paint job, though.

I've always driven manuals my whole life and this auto 5 speed is the only thing I hate about my e38. My only hesitation for doing the swap is space. I'm 6'7" and run a 16 extra wide shoes. Usually I struggle with pedal spacing for clutches in most sedans. The seven feels juuuuust big enough in the foot well of an auto. I worry that working that left pedal might be a tad awkward for me. I guess I just need to drive a 6 speed and test it. I tried a manual M5 e39 but it was a bit too small for my headroom so I couldn't compare the two as the basic driver's area is smaller.
