Question Door Mirror - How to remove stem

Using this image here ( http://www.bmwtechinfo.com/repair/ma...et2/227265.jpg ) I managed to take the glass off, but how about removing the stem?

Gotta gently pry triangular cover on the inside door just in front of the window. Also pry mirror adjustment switch and disconnect the harness. To remove glass, you will need a heat gun as it is glued on.

That triangle's side seems to be under the mirror frame and it has not much play, will be difficult.. But once I will take that off are there any screws holding the stem? Not really sure how that one should come off..

There's a plug @ the bottom of the hinge.

Remove the plug and you'll find a large bolt with the harness

through the center of the bolt. You can unscrew the bolt but be aware it's under spring tension.

Easier to replace the entire thing than to remove from it's post. Also never seen just the post for sale, always entire unit.

you need a pin extractor tool. Search google and youtube for hands on "how to". You could try a local automotive store as they may extract them for you. Take a photo before removal to reinstall wires in correct locations.

Did you look around for a used mirror. Last I looked they were cheap and from the POV of having done the job you are trying to do, buy a used one unless you have time on your hands

The one I have is from e12, (want to fit it on my e28) and it's pretty rare (and currently there's none on Ebay)...
Had no luck asking on the e28 sub-forum, you guys seem to have all the traction here :>

You probably looked around in http://www.mye28.com (which I am assuming is different than the E28 sub forum) but just in case you have not.
